Tea and Talk at Toby’s – Brentwood Cancer Support Group

We are a group which can give social and emotional support to people affected by cancer. This includes relatives and carers. People in Brentwood and neighbouring areas, over the age of 18 are welcome.
The group has facilitators with personal or professional experience of cancer. We know that many people with cancer can find it difficult to talk about their situation and we offer the understanding that comes from a shared experience.
We meet from 10am until 12 noon on the first Monday of every month (except for Bank Holidays, when it is the second Monday) at Toby’s Carvery, opposite Brentwood Town Hall.
Our first meeting was in September 2016 and we usually have around 20 people attending, mostly patients, some bring relatives and carers and we have volunteers from Orange Line. Our support group is free of charge and refreshments are provided. People generally have a seat at a table and talk with their neighbours whilst some circulate or have one to one discussions with volunteers – the choice is yours.
You can say as much or as little as you wish, some people attend regularly, others drop in when they choose, we recognise that everyone needs to make their own choices.
We do not give medical advice but we can help, support and provide information from approved sources. We have contacts with the local hospitals and charities.
More information can be obtained from Orange Line – a telephone information service on 01708 758649 or orangeline@sfh.org.uk - (Karen Freeman).
